Drawing LeBron James 2015 – Cleveland Cavaliers – hyperrealistic art

In drawing LeBron James 2015  (King James), the NBA star who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers, I used a black sheet of paper which I bought from a local art supply shop. The texture of he paper was quite grainy, which made it more difficult to obtain a smooth finish without having to press hard on the paper. I probably used twice as much of the amount of colour on this drawing as I normally use when I draw using Canson Bristol Smooth whte paper.

I am really starting to like using black paper, especially the mood that it can bring out. My only challenge is to find a brand of black paper that is as smooth as my white paper. If you are reading this and you have any suggestions for smooth black paper, please let me know in the comments below.

If you are into drawing dark-themed subjects (think Sci-Fi and dark movie characters) then you should seriously consider using black paper. Look out for a tutorial on how to draw using black paper which I will post in the next few days.

Vivess 0.5 mm lead pencil

Black paper
